Why is religion necessary and what is it's purpose?

Well religion is necessary because of sin. Listen to the man of God Samuel in his response to King Saul after his rebellion in the matter of the Amalekites. Saul gave as the reason for his disobedience, a desire to sacrifice (worship) God. But Samuel informs him that, "to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. So, had man never sinned there would have never been a need to sacrifice. We sacrifice, because of sin, in order to commune with God, so the absence of sin negates the necessity for sacrifice and communion with God becomes automatic. Notice in the garden of Eden there was daily communion with God.

Today there are at least (17) seventeen major religious groups not to mention numerous sects and divisions of these groups. Which one is right? These systems of beliefs and modes of worship are as varying as the people that observe them. Is God confused? Why would he give so many different ways to worship Him? Or, has he left that up to man and whatever we come up with is fine as long as he is recognized?

Well, certainly God is not confused and he has revealed His choice and will for us in respect to worship. He also has rejected our Ideas and modes of worship as inadequate. In Genesis when Adam sinned his attempt to cover his sin was rejected and a proper covering was given to him by God. An animal was sacrificed (blood atonment) and man's sin was covered. So, the first criterion was that for sinful man to come into the presence of a Holy God, a blood atonement (cover) is necessary. Therefore, in order for the religion to be acceptable atonement must be at the base of it. And since God sets the criterion, he also defines which sacrifices are acceptable. So any religion that does not have as it's base the principle of atonement, it is disqualified as acceptable. That alone eliminates a great number of accepted religions. And since the sacrifice and the process of sacrifice was defined by God, then, if the sacrifice and the process is not the one God prescribed then it is also unacceptable and disqualified. Through the process of elimination then, there is only one religion left standing, Judaism.

But, around (2000) two thousand years ago from Judaism came one who was prophesied would destroy the power of sin and reunite God and man. He brought with Him, not a system of beliefs but a way of life, empowered by God Himself which enables mankind to walk in newness of life. Who testified Himself, "I came that you might have life and that more abundantly. One who God Himself testified of, "this is my beloved Son, hear ye Him". Jesus again said, "no man comes to the father but by me". These are very definitive statements, leaving no room for compromise.

Which religion is right? Only the one with Jesus at it's center.

The only way that leads to true eternal life is the one that has a mediator at it's core, God Almighty Himself. There is only one religion which deals with the sinful nature of man, which disqualifies him from entering into the presence of God, that religion is Christianity, and the only mediator is JESUS CHRIST.

Wouldn't you like to secure your place in eternity? There is only one way you can be assured of you eternal destiny, and that way is JESUS CHRIST.

Please pray this prayer with me:

God, thank you for showing me my need to be saved, and thank you for providing me an escape from the penalty of sin. Jesus, come into my heart and be the Lord of my life, I repent of my sin and receive your loving sacrifice as my own. Thank You.
